The Uddingston Masonic Burns Club was formed on 8th August 1914. Numbered 237 on the roll of The Burns Federation, the club can boast the oldest on the roll with the word "Masonic" in it's title. When you consider
that the roll is world wide, then this is indeed something to be proud of.
Bro. Andrew Martin, President presided as The Club held it`s Annual General Meeting on Friday 14th. April. The Report on the Annual Burns Supper was well received by the members and congratulations and thanks were extended to all those who assisted in making the event such a success. The Annual Accounts were also presented and were unanimously approved by the members. Membership Fees were again held at £2. Preliminary discussions took place regarding the 2001 Supper and it was decided that the format should be changed for next year, mainly because it was thought that this years Supper would be a hard act to follow! The following Office Bearers were unanimously re elected. President, Andrew Martin, Vice President, Bruce Reidford, Secretary, Jim Jack. Two new members joined at the A.G.M., Ian Dick and Gordon Reidford bringing the membership to 54. Burns Club Members please note, £2 Membership Fees are now due.
The Club held its Annual Supper on Saturday 19th. February 2000 in The Masonic Hall, Uddingston. The first Supper of the New Millennium was intended to be something special, and indeed it was. Andrew Martin, President, welcomed 120 Members and Friends to the event and in his opening remarks welcomed the R.W.M., Members and Friends of Lodge Loudoun Kilwinning No. 51, Newmilns who had been invited to conduct the business of the evening. Unfortunately, David Smith and Madge Smith were unable to attend with the visitors due to David`s ill health, and our own John McLeod was also absent due to ill health. The President wished them a speedy recovery to good health and our thoughts were with them. The evening got off to a "flyer" when the Piper, ably accompanied by Bob Edgar and George Hughes arrived in the Hall with the Haggis just prior to the President introducing the top table. No time to spare! Bob Smith Addressed the Haggis and set the tone for an excellent evening. Principal Guests were,
William Steel, Holy Willie`s Prayer. John Speirs, Songs. William Morrison, Tam O Shanter. R. Stuart Lyon, Immortal Memory. Gavin Kerr, To a Louse. Jim Hazlett, Tae The Lasses. Karen Scott, Reply to The Lassies. Charles Magorian, Something Special.
Bruce Reidford, Vice President proposed a toast to Our Guests in an excellent fashion, complementing the Artists on their skills. Who will forget the fine singing voice of John Speirs? Tam O Shanter by the World Champion, William Morrison. A great Immortal Memory by the talented Stuart Lyon which was expertly crafted. We were indebted to Jim Hazlett and Karen Scott for deputising for David and Madge Smith in Toasting and Replying to the Lassies and what an ending to the evening - Charles Magorian`s Something Special - a modern version of Tam O Shanter - Tam The Bunnet, which had everyone in stitches. A great night. In his closing address Andrew Martin thanked everyone who had helped make the Millennium Supper indeed Something Special. He presented Gavin Kerr, Right Worshipful Master of Lodge Loudoun Kilwinning No. 51 with an engraved decanter on behalf of the Club and also a framed drawing of The Halls. The President then asked the Secretary to read a portion of the last meeting of the Club at which the Members unanimously elected the first Honorary Member of the Club, Bro. Bob Smith, P.M. No. 51 Bro. Smith was presented with an engraved jewel, certificate and a Membership card. In reply Bro. Smith expressed his delight at being afforded such an Honour and thanked the Members of the Club for the presentation of the gifts. It had been an extremely enjoyable evening and the Members of the Club were well satisfied that the Millennium had been celebrated in such a successful manner.
The next meeting of the Club will be the Annual General Meeting and will be held on Friday 14th. April 2000 at 8pm in the Halls. Members Note. Membership Fees are now due and will be uplifted at the A.G.M.

Burns Club Meeting Report 21st Jan Bro. Andrew Martin, Chairman welcomed a good attendance of 16 Members to the Regular Meeting of the Club held in the Halls on Friday 21st. January 2000. Business included, a Membership report, which showed a further increase. Income and expenditure was also approved and the Members were satisfied with the progress made in Club funds. The final arrangements were made for the Annual Supper and the Members looked forward with anticipation for the visit from the Members of Lodge Loudoun Kilwinning No. 51. Pat Clarke reported that ticket sales were going extremely well and at the time of printing 120 had been sold, making the first Burns Supper of the Millennium one of the best attended in recent times. The Club also agree to award Bro. Robert Smith a Past Master of Lodge Loudoun Kilwinning No. 51 Honorary Membership of the Club.
It was a strange feeling, but the Club held what is to be the last Meeting of this Century on Friday 10th. September 1999. Looking forward to the new Millennium with great anticipation, President Bro. Andrew Martin welcomed three new Members and intimated that the Membership now stood at 50. The first Annual Burns Supper of the New Millennium would be special in that the Club had invited the Brethren of Lodge Loudoun Kilwinning No. 51 to conduct the entire Supper. Lodge Loudoun Kilwinning No. 51 have a great Burns tradition, in that the Bard was a regular visitor to the Lodge during the time that his great friend Gavin Hamilton was Right Worshipful Master. The date has been agreed as Saturday 19th. February 2000 at 6.30pm. and further details will be available nearer the date. Bro. Andrew Martin,
President presided over this years Supper which was attended by ninety five
Members and Friends. The Haggis was piped in by Wilson Shaw assisted by George
Hughes and Bob Abercrombie . The Address to the Haggis was carried out by
George Mason, Past President of the Club. The Traditional Fare was enjoyed by
those in attendance. Annual General Meeting Report - Friday 23rd. April 1999 at 7.30pm. Club President, Andrew Martin welcomed Members to the Annual General Meeting of the Club. He charted the progress that the Club had made over the last twelve months, highlighting the "all time high" membership and the general enthusiasm of the members. The Club had improved it`s profile in that a Presidents Collar had been purchased and Past Presidents jewels had also been purchased. Although the Club had experienced good times in the last year, he also reflected on the death of our dear Bro. David Wood and remembered his enthusiasm for all things Burns. Accounts. Jim Jack, Secretary presented the Accounts for the year end 31st. March 1999 and they were approved by the Members. Office Bearers. The present Office Bearers were Elected for a second year. Andrew Martin President, Bruce Reidford Vice President, Jim Jack Secretary. Fees. The annual would remain at £2.00 2000 Annual Burns Supper. Jim Jack reported that Lodge Loudoun Kilwinning No. 51, Newmilns may be available to carry out the 2000 Annual Supper. Gavin Hamilton who was a great friend of Robert Burns was R.W.M. of this Lodge during Burns time. Robert Burns often visited the Lodge of his friend and there is a great Burns tradition within the Lodge. The Members moved that this proposal be pursued
